 Ratlings are humanoid, semi-sentient cousins of ordinary rats. They live in underground warrens, which surround the chamber of their queen, who is the colony's single female, and the mother of all its ratlings.
Ratlings are slightly less than one meter tall humanoids with ratlike heads and piercing red eyes that shine through darkness. They exist only to feed their queen, and are constantly searching for anything edible, which by for them includes garbage and dung.
They are opportunistic omnivores, who will eat anything they can overpower and kill. Ratlings rapidly strip the area near their lair of all resources. They forage in ever-widening circles, inevitably provoking violent reactions from outsiders. When resistance is encountered, the queen reacts by commanding wave after wave of ratlings to attack the enemy, until the obstacle is removed, or all her children are dead.
